The Jerk

Bartender I cry, you Pineapple Pig
Bring me a Purple Dragon
For my friend a Buck Horn Big
I have stories long to tell you
Love Lies Bleeding to sell you
If only to compel you
You Holly Hock Fig
Pink Honey, Pink Oxbow, Pink Boar, you pink tart
Bring Early Scarlet Globe and Brandywine
Irish Grey for my friend, sweetheart
My Midnight Dream will repel you
Moon and Stars that propel you
As beneath the ground swells you
You Flamboyant spare part
Painted Lady rum Runner, yoo-hoo, over here
I am empty once more
Bring two Stone Mountain beers
Your Elephant Head won’t excel you
No Baby Blues to tip well you
So Buttercup to hell you
You Ginger’s Pride, Big Rainbow steer

You ever write something that you just wish you wouldn’t?  That’s what this poem felt like today.  I kept trying to take it a different direction, but it kept going down the same track.  Ok, so I surrendered.  The Day 5 NaPoWriMo  challenge is to spend some time looking at the names of heirloom plants, and write a poem that takes its inspiration from, or incorporates the name of, one or more of these garden rarities.  In the Jerk poem I’ve used a different colored font to indicate the actual names of heirloom vegetables.  And sorry to anyone I’ve offended.  I feel like a real Stupice.
