Hole Diggin’

Thunderstorm moves in,
rain and lightnin’ strikes nearby.
Lookin’ for higher ground
to bury deep this time.
Don’t want them to float away.

Big water, high tide
comin’ up the bayou way
might evacuate
the ones I planted last time
when no one else was around.

There’s a strange feelin’
that comes when you work the earth.
Movin’ ground around
knowin’ that the hole is for
Ma and Pa and sweet Lorraine
